Leave a legacy of impact. Receive benefits.
A legacy gift to OM Canada is your opportunity, depending on the type of asset, to benefit through tax relief on estate taxes.
You choose. Your gift can support OM’s work where it’s most needed, or a specific ministry, program, or project that is close to your heart.
Remain flexible. Make changes to your choices in legacy giving at any time.
Note: Information you find here is not intended to provide any financial, legal, or tax-related advice. We recommend seeking independent professional advice from a qualified accountant, lawyer, or financial advisor to ensure your estate is distributed in a way that meets your wishes.
There are many ways you can give to OM Canada and make a lasting impact. Prayerfully consider each of these planned giving options:
Giving Through Your Will
Your Will gives you an excellent opportunity to communicate your values to your family and loved ones. Giving a gift in your will, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures.
Make OM Canada a beneficiary in your Will and know that you will leave a legacy in God’s Kingdom. By designating a specific amount or leaving a percentage of your estate, you are empowering OM to continue reaching the lost with the Gospel.
Gifts of Securities/Shares
It is exciting when you own stocks, bonds or mutual funds and these investments increase. However, if you wish to convert these to cash, the capital gain is taxable.
One of the most financially sound ways to support the work of Operation Mobilization is to make a gift of appreciated securities to OM Canada. When you donate stocks, mutual funds, or other types of securities to us, you pay no capital gains tax on their increase in value.
Donor Advised Fund
A donor advised fund (DAF), which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Operation Mobilization and other qualified charities.
You can contribute to the fund as frequently as you like and watch as your charitable investment grows tax-free. You will receive immediate tax benefits and can recommend donations to your favourite charities whenever they are ready.
Charitable Gift Annuities
There is a way for you to support Operation Mobilization and feel confident that you have dependable income in your retirement years. You can do this with a charitable gift annuity.
With a charitable gift annuity, you agree to make a gift to OM through Link Charity and they, in return, agree to pay you (and someone else, if you choose) a fixed amount each year for the rest of your life. The remaining balance on your passing is used to support our work.
This type of donation can provide you with regular payments for life and allow OM to further our mission. You can also qualify for a variety of tax benefits, including an income tax charitable deduction.
Gifts of Real Estate
Real Estate Property might be the largest asset you own. It might be a residential property, vacation cottage, farm, commercial property, industrial property, or undeveloped land.
Donating this gift-in-kind to OM Canada not only provides a generous gift to help us continue our work for years to come, but also helps you by providing significant tax benefits. When you give property to OM Canada, you will receive a donation receipt for its appraised fair market value. This donation receipt can be used as a tax credit and offset other taxes.
Memorial Gifts
You can honour the life of your deceased loved one by establishing a memorial or honour gift in their name. Carry their legacy forward and direct family and friends to also give in that person’s name.
Or celebrate a special birthday, anniversary, or accomplishment and at the same time impact the lives of others through the work of OM by giving an honour gift.
Retirement Funds
A Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) or Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF) can offer significant benefits during your lifetime as a Tax-Deferred Savings Plan. If you wish to reduce the taxes which eventually must be paid, you can donate a portion of your savings to charity. A charitable donation receipt will help you offset these tax implications.
Naming OM Canada as a beneficiary of your retirement assets can do this for you. You would receive a donation receipt for the value of your entire gift, which at the same time lowers your estate taxes.
Gifts of Life Insurance
Life insurance gives you opportunity to provide for your loved ones at your passing. You might also choose to support your favorite charity this way. This gift planning tool can enable you to make a significant gift to OM Canada, with relatively low investments in premium.
Leaving a Legacy
"Since the earliest days of OM, the very existence of this ministry has often been due in large part to the vision and generosity of donors who have left OM gifts through their estates. Several of those gifts were received at critical moments when a crucial project would either continue or cease to exist. Such bequests, both large and small, are not only a huge encouragement to our missionaries on the frontlines of ministry, but have become a vitally important tool for OM's leadership in developing plans for the future work of OM." - George Verwer, Founder of OM
