On January 1st 2024, just after 4pm local time, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.
The quake caused destruction of hundreds of buildings, and a fire destroyed a big part of Wajima City. More than 700 houses are reported to be collapsed or damaged, which brought about 34,500 people to shelter in 407 evacuation centres.
The devastation caused by the earthquake greatly affected the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, with extended damage in neighbouring prefectures of Toyama and Niigata.
Given the established presence of the OM team in the area, and given the church partnerships already in place, OM is playing a major role of functioning as a network hub; coordinating relief efforts, distributing goods, and providing the Good News as the team follows up with those they help.
Give now to support the relief efforts in Japan and help share the hope found in Christ.
In the face of this earthquake and the need that all people in Japan need, we see an opportunity for the seeds of hope to be sown through the generous aid and prayers of fellow Jesus followers like you.
"Our soul waits for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
For our heart is glad in him,
because we trust in his holy name.
Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
even as we hope in you."
Psalms 33:20-22 ESV
