Software development internship

Working together towards a shared goal

During a three-month internship, Aaron worked alongside software developers creating LightNet.

This summer, Aaron completed a three-month software developer internship with MediaWorks, first remotely from his hometown of London, then joining the local team in Austria for the final month. Aaron recently finished his A-Levels, including an A-Level in computer science. As he prepares to study this subject further at university, he was keen to gain experience, and it was the opportunity to work alongside software developers creating a digital tool called LightNet that caught his attention.

During his internship, Aaron tackled some of LightNet’s modules, including creating a PDF-to-image converter so that when digital books are uploaded, it automatically shows the front cover as an image, thus speeding up the process. Another project involved programming a guideline and reference for displaying Christian media on websites according to categories and languages, making it easier to organise data.

“LightNet is a valuable tool that allows access to so many people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to media in their language and specific to them,” said Aaron. “It offers the ability for locals to do it their way. I’ve not seen this distribution method before — it’s a grand task!”

With such a grand task ahead, MediaWorks is looking for additional software developer interns and professionals to volunteer part- or full-time. Could this be you, or do you know someone who could help?
