As OM, we place great emphasis on discipleship.
Why is this?
An easy answer is that Jesus commanded us to go into the world and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). Make disciples of whom? you may ask. Well, the Bible instructs us to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. So, it is these three whom we are to be disciples of. It seems obvious, but often this is not what is practiced.
We are also called to teach those believers everything that Christ has commanded. We get a glimpse of what that looks like when we read the “one another” statements in the New Testament there are over 50 of them! And they focus on what? They focus on unity, love, and humility. When Christ came to Earth, He set a perfect example of what a spirit-filled and spirit-led life looks like. If we are hoping to reach the world with the good news of Jesus, we will not do it by merely verbally proclaiming the truths of the Gospel, it needs to be accompanied by a Spirit-filled and -led life as well.
Discipleship is aimed to help people discover what being filled and led by the Spirit means in their personal lives. As people grow into this, they become a living testimony of Jesus Christ and, as witnesses, they attract others to the Good News.
Twelve disciples turned the world upside down; we can do the same! For the glory of Jesus Christ.
